Joining the CMC

At least once a month we run a weekend trip to somewhere awesome. Throughout the winter, there are huts in places like the Lake District and Snowdonia, then in the summer we switch to campsites, visiting plenty of hills, mountains and sea cliffs. As a BMC-affiliated club, we have access to a network of huts across the country, many of which are not available to the general public. Some are small, off-grid cottages in the middle of nowhere, others sleep 20+ and have fully equipped kitchens. They’ve all got something great to offer. As well as these regular weekend-long meets, we also run a week-long trip every May/June to places like Scotland or Ireland.

Local Day Walks

To keep active in between our meets, we also take it in turns to arrange walks in the local area. We try to make the most of public transport and have covered miles and miles of the tracks, paths and trails around Surrey and Kent.

Socials

Every club needs a social heart and ours is the Dog & Bull (now ‘Dog’…) in Croydon. We’ve met there for decades: to plan trips, dream up schemes, chat gear and generally stay connected. We still meet there at 8.30 pm every second and fourth Wednesday of the month — even if we can now plan our adventures via WhatsApp! In the winter, we meet in the upstairs room and in the summer we migrate to the beer garden. We often arrange talks or slideshows to keep motivation high in the middle of the work week.

Plenty of our members are climbers. For those who love to train indoors, we’ve got a group who climb regularly at The White Spider and elsewhere around South London, Croydon, Surrey and Kent. You can rest assured that there will always be someone else keen to meet up for a few routes in the evening.
